Shirley Jean Brady

Shirley Jean Brady , 79, of South Bend, died unexpectedly at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, in her residence.
Mrs. Brady was born May 23, 1926, in Mishawaka, Ind., to the late Marvin and Ruth (Dockter) Wagner, and had lived most of her life in the South Bend-Mishawaka area.
On April 7, 1951, in South Bend, as Shirley J. Wagner, she married William E. Brady , who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Kathe (James) Boarman of Houston, Texas, Janann "Jan" (Thomas) Hershberger and Janine "Jean" (Rocky) Dodds, both of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Amy, Matt and Julie Boarman, Kara (Paul) Sinders, Travis Hershberger, and Ashleigh and Taylor Dodds; and a niece, Lee Ann (Michael) Thornton of Mishawaka.
Shirley loved her family dearly, her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and her cocker spaniel, Taffy. She spent much of her leisure time enjoying her grandchildren's many varied activities including school programs, sporting events, 4-H horse shows, etc.
She also loved her church, Sunnyside Presbyterian. She was a deacon, played in the bell choir and was involved in the Presbyterian Women's Circles and prayer chains. She was a member there for more than 40 years.
She was a member of Psi Iota XI philanthropic sorority, Gamma Sigma chapter, since 1966. She also belonged to and was a past president of the PEO sisterhood and loved having friends who she could call "sisters." In addition, she was a member of the School Men's Wives Club since 1954.
Dancing was another joy in her life. She belonged to the 100 Dance Club and was active in line dancing at the Forever Learning Institute as well as the couples western dancing group. She also danced seven years with the Teachers Credit Union line dancing class. When not dancing, she loved spending time playing bridge with her many different groups of friends.
The family would like to thank Pastors Jamie Miller, Rebecca Kirkpatrick and Marge Braden from Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. In addition we would like to thank her medical caregivers: Drs. Stephen Anderson, Faye Magneson, Rafat Ansari, Brian Sucharetza, diabetic advisor, Dorcas Sunderlin, the nurses at the Navarre Place Oncology Unit, and her nursing staff and caregivers at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, in Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, with Rev. James B. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, April 21, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., and on Saturday in the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church Music and Bell Choir programs, 115 S. Frances St., South Bend, IN 46617.
Shirley is already greatly missed by her family and many friends.
