Mary Alice Smith

SOUTH BEND - Mary Alice (Weatherman) Smith, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross Center in South Bend. Mary was born on June 24, 1926 in South Bend to Albert and Garland (Boone) Weatherman.

She married William Dewitt Smith on April 27, 1946. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage with three children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mary was known and loved by many for her piano and organ playing, her infectious smile and her ability to talk to anyone. Some of her greatest joys in life were dancing the jitterbug with her husband Bill, attending church at Westminster, spoiling her grandchildren, and later in life, playing piano for the Golden Troubadours singing group and visiting with her breakfast club friends at McDonalds. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, a wonderful mother, a doting grandmother, and a dear friend to many.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marjorie Gray, her son, Doug, and her husband, Bill. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Monnard of Davenport, Iowa and son, Don Smith of Evansville, Wisconsin, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and special niece and honorary daughter, Sharon Gray of South Bend.

Friends and family will gather together to celebrate Mary's life on Tuesday, at 10:00am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with visitation to follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity of your choice .
