PATRICIA (KEDZIE) PASZKIET

SOUTH BEND - Patricia Ann Paszkiet, 83, passed away peacefully at 7:40 pm Sunday, August 14, 2011, with her family by her side. She was born on September 28, 1927, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Laurence and Irene (Koch) Kedzie, and lived in New London, Connecticut, and Winnetka, Illinois, before coming to South Bend in 1938.

She graduated from John Adams High School in 1945 and the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She also attended the University of Michigan and St. Mary's College. Pat was a registered nurse with the St. Joseph County Health Department for over 50 years, retiring in 2001 as the Director of Nursing. Upon retirement she was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Frank O'Bannon in recognition of years of service and dedication to public health.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish for over 55 years and a devoted Catholic often attending daily mass.

On June 4, 1955, in the Log Chapel at Notre Dame, she married Eugene S. Paszkiet, who preceded her in death on January 6, 1984. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Kedzie and Katharine Kedzie Moulder; one brother, Laurence Fife Kedzie, Jr.; and two grandchildren: twins, John David and Michael Lawrence Paszkiet.

atricia is survived by her twin sister, Peggy Peck of Mishawaka; two daughters, Mary Pat Latowski of South Bend and Ann (Mike) Hazinski of Chapel Hill, NC; three sons, John (Cathy Barrow) Paszkiet of Jacksonville, FL, Robert (Patricia Reynolds) of South Bend and James Paszkiet of South Bend; and ten grandchildren, Stephen Latowski, Matthew (Shannon) Latowski, Daniel (Brandy) Latowski, and David Latowski; Rebecca (Mark) Mammon, John (Dayna) Paszkiet, Katie Paszkiet, and Marianne Paszkiet; and Matthew and Sam Hazinski. Additionally, she is survived by six great-grandchildren, Michael, Alexandra and Vanessa Latowski, Emma and Andrew Mammon and Kairi Paszkiet.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am Wednesday, August 17, 2011, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame. Graveside services and burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to specially thank the people at Arborwood and Harbor Lights Hospice as well as Dr. Mokfi for the wonderful care she received during her long illness.
