John W. (Jack) Pfaff, Jr. June 5, 1927 – June 5, 2012 Warrenton, VA Mr. Pfaff died at home on the day of his 85th birthday, after an extended illness. Jack was born June 5, 1927 in South Bend, IN to Judge John W. Pfaff and Odessa W. Pfaff, both of whom preceded him in death.

Jack grew up in South Bend, graduating from John Adams High School in 1945. He attended Indiana University and Hanover College prior to his entry into the U.S. Army in 1950. After two years in the Military Police Corps, Jack enrolled in the Police Administration School at Michigan State University, from which he graduated in 1954.

In January 1955 Jack became a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His last 17 years at the Bureau were spent first as a teacher and subsequently as an administrator at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. For the last years of his FBI service, Jack was Chairman of the Behavioral Sciences Department at the Academy, which was in the process of establishing the Criminal Profiling system, now widely in use throughout the country. After his retirement from the Bureau, Jack became the first Director of the Northern Virginia Police Academy, and served in that position for two years. Thereafter he was an investigator for the U.S. State Department.

Jack is survived by his daughter Pamela (Peter) Duca of Las Vegas, Nevada, his granddaughter Stephanie (Jesse) Mullis of Loveland, Colorado, his brother Robert A. (Elizabeth) Pfaff of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews and their children. In June 1954 Jack was married to Dianne Way in Windsor Ontario. They later divorced. Subsequently Jack remarried Patricia Fuellhart, who preceded him in death. His son, John Douglas Pfaff, also died before Jack.

Jack loved the out of doors, water sports and raising dogs and horses. His love of competitive sailing in the 1940’s and 50’s later converted into pleasure sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. In the late 40’s and early 50’s Jack was generally regarded as one of the best sailors in the Midwest and won numerous regattas and races.

Jack was cremated on June 7th. A memorial service for family and friends was held at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton on Saturday June 9th. Interment will be at a private service in the Adamsville Michigan Cemetery later this month. Memorials may be made to the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation charities in Quantico or to Heartland Hospice in Warrenton.
