SOUTH BEND – Dr. Edwin E. Swigart, 87, passed away at 9:05 PM Thursday, November 28, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN . Dr. Swigart retired from his podiatry practice in 2001. He was born on November 12, 1926 in Argos, IN to the late Vernie L. Swigart and Fern S. (Fishburn) Swigart Stoner. On September 14, 1974, he married Martha (Czerniak) Wielgos, who survives.

Along with his loving wife, Martha Swigart, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Susan K. (Larry) Bunnell of Granger; two stepsons, Dennis J. (Marilyn) Wielgos of Loudon, TN and John Wielgos, Jr. of South Bend; and five grandchildren, Jennifer (Bryan) Burkhart and their children, Luke and Ashley Burkhart; Holly (Aaron) Huffman and their children, Madelyn and Brendan Huffman; Larry John Bunnell; Kevin Bunnell; and J. P. Wielgos and his mother, Teri Wielgos. Two brothers, Gerald Swigart and Richard Swigart preceded Edwin in death.

Dr. Swigart graduated from Adams High School; Indiana University, Bloomington, IN; IL College of Podiatric Medicine, Chicago, IL. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Dr. Swigart was beloved by his family and many friends and will be greatly missed.

Private family services were held. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
