R. Richard "Dick" Beaty, 77, residing in South Bend, passed away following an apparent heart attack at 3:30 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2006, in his home.

He was born October 8, 1928, in Mishawaka, as the son of Ralph R. and Martha (Nicholson) Beaty, and had remained a lifelong resident of this community.

On November 14, 1948, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, South Bend, he married Norma L. Tully. His loving wife, Norma of more than 57 years, survives him along with his daughter, Diane (Steve) Gerencser of Goshen, and his son, David (Mikki) Beaty Sr. of Mishawaka. Also surviving are three grandchildren, David (Tamie) Beaty Jr. of South Bend, Kelly (Scott) Johnston of Mishawaka and Michelle Gerencser of South Bend; six great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Beaty, Sabrina Beaty, Kyler Beaty, Kara Beaty, Danielle Johnston and Haley Johnston. Dick is also survived by his sister, Kathleen (Terry) Darr of Mishawaka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a son, Daniel R. Beaty in 1977.

Mr. Beaty retired in 1991 as a salesman/driver with the Pepsi-Cola Corp. following 30 years of service. He was a member of the River Park Fishermen's Club.

Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2006, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Kathy Miller, pastor of River Park United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Beaty may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
