Phyllis B. Bedell (Kordes)

Phyllis B. Kordes

Jan. 17, 1928 - Nov. 21, 2012

Phyllis B. Kordes, 84, passed away following a short illness at San Joaquin Community Hospital. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, Dec, 6, 2012, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Bear Valley Springs Oak Tree Country Club.

Born in Houston, Mo., Kordes lived most of her childhood in South Bend, Ind., and as a young woman met her true love and husband of 65 years, Eldon "Don" E. Kordes.

In 1960 Phyllis and Don to moved their family; son Kenneth Kordes, daughter Janice Kordes, and now deceased son Richard Guy Kordes, from Virginia to Lancaster.

Being an avid life learner, Kordes obtained an education degree from California State University Northridge while raising her children and would use her "creative and results oriented" teaching for the Lancaster School District for 20 years.

Kordes' retirement goal was to "get out of the wind" and ride her horses.

She believed education to be the means to open one's life to great opportunities and walked her talk as a long time member of the PEO sorority, the teacher's association and the American Association of University Women. Her frequent bridge games with her dear friends kept her mind sharp.

Kordes cherished her husband, children and friends and many will miss her deeply, particularly her horse Tee.

May her spirit ride along the Bear Valley trails with you as well as wherever you may be.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Kordes' memory to the American Association of University Women, 111 Sixteenth St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20036; AAUW.org/give. Or the Tehachapi Humane Society, 21600 Golden Star Blvd. #3, Tehachapi, Ca. 93561; Tehachapihumane.org. Wood Family Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
