MISHAWAKA - Evelyn L. Packard, 86, of Mishawaka, formerly of Niles, went home to be with her Savior and was reunited with her husband and daughter on Thursday, January 2, 2014. She was born on October 11, 1927 in Teegarden, IN, the daughter of the late Willis C. and Pearl B. (Johnson) Divine and on October 12, 1946, she married Clifton E. Packard.
Evelyn was saved at an early age and lived her life as a good and faithful servant. Her heart was dedicated to the Lord and His ministry. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a friend to all. For years, she and her husband led the Junior Sunday School Dept. at the First Baptist Church of Mishawaka.
She is survived by two children, Karen (Jim) Van Huis and Tom (Barb) Packard, both of Granger; six grandchildren, Janet (Wayne) Wilson of South Bend, Ruth Anne (Randy) Clifton of Granger, David (Crystal) Van Huis of Cassopolis, Jolae (Daniel) Bailey of Charlottesville, VA, Jovan Packard of Durham, NC and Danielle (Josh) Young of Mishawaka, and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Alice Klopfenstein of Florida.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Lynne McKay sisters, Glenna Thompson, Lillian Kaiser, and Jeanete Stegman, and brothers, Gail, Earl, Wayne, Frank, and Paul Divine.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm, Monday, January 6, 2013 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 7, 2013 in the funeral home with one hour visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Instead of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Packard Junior Camp Scholarship Fund, 724 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
