Vernita Slabaugh

Mrs. Vernita Slabaugh, 49, of 56081 Wynnewood, Osceola, died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital in South Bend following an extended illness.
Born on Jan. 27, 1930, in Kansas, she had lived in the area since 1952, after coming from Kansas. On July 19, 1959, as Vernita Owens, she married Keith Slabaugh in Mishawaka.
He survives with her father, Oscar Owens of South Bend; a daughter, Michelle of Muncie, Ind.; a son, Michael, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Lou Taylor of Fort Myers, Fla., and Mrs. Linda Sipe of South Bend.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home where arrangements are incomplete.
Mrs. Slabaugh was the secretary and treasurer of the Astro Construction Co.
Services for Mrs. Slabaugh will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Rev. John H. Woodruff, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society.
