MISHAWAKA, IN - Donald W. Crawford, 89, passed away on March 17, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family. Donald was born on May 21, 1931, in South Bend, IN as the son of Lloyd W. and Hazel O. (Bland) Crawford. On October 24, 1953, in South Bend, Don married Nancy (Whitenger) who survives.

Also surviving are his sons, Steve Crawford of Elkhart and Matthew Crawford, of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Jacob, Molly, Kintyre and Colin Crawford; sisters, Beverly Archer, Karen Lant and Laura Lord. and he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Patricia Trost.

Don graduated from John Adams High School in 1949 and attended Bethel College before enlisting into the United States Navy from 1951-1955. Don worked for Mishawaka Federal Bank (MFB) Corporation for 35 years before his retirement in 1995 as a Vice President.

Don was a proud and active member of his community. He was a Mishawaka City Councilman for 8 years. He served on the Board of Trustees at Bethel College, the Mishawaka Library Board, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, YMCA Board, and the School City of Mishawaka Education Foundation Board. He was a member of the Mishawaka Lions Club, the Downtown Mishawaka Association, the Mishawaka Garden Club, and Coalbush United Methodist Church.

Don was always working as a team with the love of his life Nancy. They were able to build relationships of love and understanding locally, and internationally through exchange student hosting. They shared a special commitment to Mishawaka’s Sister City relationship with Shiojiri, Japan. They are responsible for the inspiration and creation of the Mishawaka Park Shiojiri Niwa. In 2010 they were honored by the city, renaming the south side of Merrifield Park as Crawford Park.

Visitation will be 4-6 pm, Monday, March 22, 2021, at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka. There will be a service at Coalbush United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 23rd at 11:00 am. It can also be Livestreamed by going to the Coalbush United Methodist Church Facebook page. Covid restrictions will put a 75-person limit for the church service. Donald will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Coalbush United Methodist Church, The Lions Club of Mishawaka, The Center for Hospice Foundation or The Mishawaka Education Foundation Community Greenhouse.
