Virginia Marie Guin

May 28, 1931 - Nov. 19, 2004

Virginia Marie Guin, a long time resident of South Bend, died on Nov. 19, in The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., after lapsing into a coma shortly after she suffered a stroke. She was 73.

Virginia was born to the late Paul and Helene (Hawkes) Holland on May 28, 1931 in Brookline, Massachusetts. In 1936, she relocated to South Bend with her parents and younger sister, Patricia (Hawkes) Hof. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and John Adams High School before attending Western Michigan University where she met her future husband, Richard Guin, whom she married in 1953.

After college, Virginia worked for a time as a buyer for the former Wyman's Department Store. After the birth of her first child, she devoted her full time to her family, eventually raising two daughters and a son in South Bend.

Mrs. Guin is survived by her husband, Richard; two daughters, Constance Graham and Cynthia Souder; a son, David; a sister, Patricia Hof and four grandchildren, Corey and Maggie Graham and Cameron and Ian Stouder.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor St., South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the time of service. Virginia will be laid to rest with her parents at Highland Cemetery. The Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend is in charge of arrangements.

In loving memory of Virginia, contributions may be made to either the donor's choice or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
