SOUTH BEND - Merrillyn M. Morgan, 85 years old, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the Healthwin Specialized Care, South Bend. Mrs. Morgan was born on October 2, 1930 in South Bend to the late Merrill and Mae (Hall) Tasher. She has been a lifelong resident of South Bend. On March 19, 1960 in South Bend, Merrillyn and Lloyd J. Morgan were united in marriage. Lloyd preceded her in death on May 30, 1972.

Mrs. Morgan has been a longtime member of the Crest Manor Church of the Brethren, South Bend. She was also a member of the Optimist Club. Mrs. Morgan retired in 1993 after ten years of employment as a research technician for the University of Notre Dame. Prior to the University of Notre Dame, she worked as a medical technologist at the South Bend Medical Foundation during the company's formation. She also managed medical laboratories at the Osteopathic and Pawating Hospitals, and taught medical studies at Ivy Tech. Merrillyn graduated from Michigan State University with a medical technology degree. Spartans versus Fighting Irish was always an interesting day.

Merrillyn was a lifelong member of the NRA and held a lifetime rating as an expert marksman in rifle. She was a member, along with her husband, of the St. Joseph Valley Rifle and Pistol Club. Her competition in rifle began in college as a “dare” and never ended.

Mrs. Morgan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Roger Hibschman; son, William D. Morgan of Bloomington, IN; and two grandsons, Daniel Morgan and David Morgan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Crest Manor Church of the Brethren, 1342 Berkshire Drive, South Bend, IN. Pastor Bradley C. Bohrer will officiate. A private burial will take place in Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3rd, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, and one hour prior to services in the church on Thursday.
