Ralph M. Vollmer

By God's grace, Ralph M. Vollmer, 90, entered his eternal home June 22, 2021. He was born March 29, 1931 in South Bend to the late Oscar and Lenora (Beaver) Vollmer and was a lifelong resident of the area.


On September 17, 1955 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Barbara Joan Volkman who preceded him in death on February 22, 2016 after 60 years of marriage.

Family was very important to Ralph. He is survived by his sons, Greg (Patti) Vollmer of Carmel, Indiana, Jon (Chris) Vollmer of Bristol, Indiana and Kurt (Sheryl) Vollmer of Walton, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Betty Gallagan of Pompano Beach, Florida. Ralph was also preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Ralph's faith was evident through his many years of service to the church in many capacities. Ralph proudly served in the United States Navy. After his military service, he worked at the South Bend Tribune for 42 years. Ralph was a great woodworker and very knowledgeable and capable of fixing nearly anything. He even built a 3D printer at the age of 85! He loved camping, fishing and spending time with family.

Services for Ralph will be held Monday, July 5, 2021 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 15697 New Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46544. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will immediately follow at Porter Rea Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 15697 New Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46544.
