John Bennett, 75, passed away peacefully at 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 6, in his home.

He was born Feb. 26, 1928, in South Bend, Ind., to John Presley and Mary Bennett, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Hitt.

On June 17, 1972, in St. Monica's Church, he married Carol Ann Patterson, who survives. He is also survived by one son, Bruce Bennett of South Bend; three stepchildren, James Patterson of Mishawaka, Ind., Catherine Kretschmer of Seattle, Wash., and Cynthia Brunner of Mishawaka; and by five grandchildren, Amberlie, Larry, Ashley, Carina and Gina.

He was a lifetime member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in South Bend. He belonged to the American Legion Post 161 and Mishawaka Eagles Aerie 2083. He worked at the Uniroyal Plastics Company for 35 years as a lab technician. He served in the Navy as a third-class petty officer during the Korean Conflict. John enjoyed traveling throughout the United States to popular landmarks. He also enjoyed fishing at Harwood Lake and camping at Rocky's Hideaway in Michigan.

Memorial services will be in Immanuel United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11. There will be no visitation, and burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in the Veterans Garden.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church, 1211 W. Ewing Ave., South Bend, IN 46613; or to Hospice of St. Joe County.

The Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
