SOUTH BEND - Jack Eugene Clemans, 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at 1:12 am in his home surrounded by family. He was born in South Bend on April 10, 1928, to Arthur and Mildred Wise Clemans. His sister, Maxine Clemans Schlifke, and husband, Arthur Schlifke, preceded him in death.

Jack went to John Adams High School and Seattle University. During the Korean War he served in the headquarters of the 45th Infantry Division stationed in Hokkaido, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea. After his honorable discharge he married Darlene Gerber on November 8, 1952, at Zion United Church of Christ in South Bend. They were blessed with a loving and devoted family: Jeffrey Clemans of California, Jeannie Clemans Steinke and her husband, Douglas Steinke of South Bend, and Thomas Clemans and his wife, Holly McKenzie Clemans of Granger. His pride and joy were his beautiful and beloved granddaughters: Noelle Steinke Agostino and her husband, Ray Agostino of Florida, Brienne Steinke of South Bend, Jackie Clemans and McKenzie Clemans of Granger.

Jack grew up enjoying summers at Diamond Lake near Cassopolis, Michigan, with his parents and sister, and now the fourth generation continues to enjoy this special place. He loved to fish with family and friends, especially in Ontario, Canada. Jack was President of Clemans Truck Line, Inc., which was founded by his father the year he was born. He was active in the American Trucking Association, the trucking associations of Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee, as well as the Northern Indiana Motor Carriers Association, and the South Bend Transportation Club. Jack was a member of the VFW and was a Paul Harris fellow of Rotary International, and was privileged to visit clubs in other countries while vacationing.

Jack enjoyed the fellowship of the Rotary bowling league. Gardening was a hobby and he loved sharing his fruits and vegetables and grew beautiful red roses to give to his sweetheart. Jack was blessed with a wonderful life and was grateful, generous and compassionate. He knew his Savior Jesus Christ and attended Granger Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, South Bend.
