Donald Eudel Howell, 51, of Chevy Chase, Md., died Monday at Suburban Hospital, Md., after a short illness. He was a retired South Bend fireman and was employed by the Washington D.C. Metro System.

Born on Aug. 23, 1929, in South Bend, he lived here until moving to Washington in 1973. On March 27, 1973, in Rockville, Md., he married Verna Hansborough Wilson.

She survives with two daughters, Ms. Donna Lynn of Los Angeles, Calif. and Ms. Francine Howell of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Dennis of Seattle, and Nelson of South Bend; a stepson, Norman Wilson of Chevy Chase, Md.; a grandchild; and two brothers, Hillie Wilson of South Bend and Joseph L. of Chevy Chase.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the First A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. George Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in Clark’s Funeral Chapel.
