Terese Lazzara Hinkle Binder

Terese “Terri” Lazzara Hinkle Binder, 88, passed away Wednesday in the Emergency Room at Memorial Hospital.

Terri was born in Vincennes, IN on February 23, 1929 to the late Charles and Margaret (Dattilo) Lazzara. She was formerly married to the late George F. Hinkle. On January 8, 1983 in South Bend she married Frederick Alexander Binder.

She worked in the Office of the Clerk for the US District Court of Northern Indiana until she retired.

She was often lovingly referred to by family and friends as “Peachy” because of her red hair. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Fred of South Bend; her children: Patrick J. Hinkle of Mishawaka; William G. (Bev) Hinkle of Jonesboro, AR; twin daughters Jean Stark of South Bend and Joan Hinkle-Zavislak of South Bend; nine grandchildren (Robert (Amber) Werntz; Angela (Ryan) Pritz; Thomas Werntz; Dr. Emily (Eric) Stout; Josie (Dominick) Chase; Lauren Hinkle; Matthew Hinkle; Lindsey Hinkle; and Mark Hinkle) and six great-grandchildren (Madeline Stout; Claire Pritz; Charlie Stout; Poppy Chase; Oliver Hinkle Ciferi; and Ryker Werntz.)

Also remembering her are: step-children John J. Binder of South Bend and Mikel A. (Sheila) Binder of Elkhart and Mary Ann E. (Scott) Horner of Lakeville; 18 step-grandchildren and 34 step-great-grandchildren; and her Miniature Schnauzer Coco.

She was an accomplished singer and performer. She attended the Chicago Musical College through a full scholarship in voice. She performed with the: Philharmonic Singers; Eddy Howard Orchestra at the Blackhawk Restaurant in Chicago; Notre Dame presentations of Gilbert and Sullivan operas; Presbyterian Players; South Bend Civic Theater; and Roland Kelly Singers. She was in many local productions like the South Bend Press Club Hoaxes and with the Country Playhouse, where she starred as Ms. Sally Adams in the Irving Berlin Musical, Call Me Madam. She was also President of the South Bend Symphony Women’s Guild.

She was a longtime member of Morris Park Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf with her family and friends.

A memorial service and a celebration of Terri’s life will be held on Tuesday at 11:30am with a time to visit with her family from 10-11:30am prior to the memorial service, all at McGann Hay Funerals – Cremations – Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd. Later there will be a private interment at Highland Cemetery with family.

Fred & family would like to thank the caregiver Kathy Campbell for her devoted love, care and friendship to Terri and also the special help & assistance over the years from her step grandson Casey Binder.
