SOUTH BEND - Charles F. Ortt Jr., 81, of East China, Michigan, entered into Eternal Life on Sunday, December 6, 2009.

He was born in Gary, Indiana, on December 6, 1928, a son to the late Charles F. and Elsie M. (Featherstone) Ortt, and graduated from Adams High School, South Bend, IN, in 1947.

He married Audrey T. Tarn on September 19, 1959, in Detroit.
Chuck retired from Grand Trunk Western Railroad as director of customer services following 33 years of service. He was a member of the Transportation Club of Detroit, and had served his country faithfully as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Ortt is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Patricia (John) Osterland of Cottrellville and Barrie (Darlene) Pattinson of Oak Park; granddaughter, Shelby Pattinson; nephew, Charles Hammond; niece, Susan Hammond-West; and several other extended family members, as well as many dear friends and acquaintances. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister, Ruth Hammond.

Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City, Michigan, with Pastor Troy G. Waite officiating.

Interment will take place privately at Rosehill Cemetery, East China.

Chuck's family will welcome visitors in the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Hospice, 1471 E. 12 Mile Road, Madison Hts., MI 48071-9784.
