SOUTH BEND – L. Jeanne Young, 61, of 204 Tonti Ave., died Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, of an apparent heart attack.

Dr. Young retired in 1984 as professor emeritus at San Francisco State University.

She was born May 17, 1929 in Muskegon, Mich., and lived in South Bend since 1936.

She is survived by her mother, Lenonora F. Young of South Bend; a sister, Mary Louise Yeager of Boca Raton, Fla.; and a brother, James E. of South Bend.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a private piano teacher in the South Bend area for many years.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, a master’s degree from American Conservatory of Music, Chicago, took graduate classes at Boston Conservatory of Music, and received her Ph.D. degree from I.U.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday in McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road, where a wake will be at 3:30 p.m.
