SOUTH BEND - Joan Ruth Owens, 73, passed away at home on Sunday, April 10.
Joan was born on July 2, 1942 in Granger to John and Ruth (Middleton) Stinebaugh. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debbie Snyder; and two brothers, Don and Jack Stinebaugh.
On September 29, 1959 in South Bend, she married Ray Owens. Surviving are her husband, Ray; a daughter, Donna (Fiancée, Mike Spillman) Maggart of Osceola; four grandchildren, Eric Westfall, Matthew Westfall, Stephanie (Floyd) Wolkins and Zachary (Fiancée, Caitlyn Flurry) Maggart; two great grandchildren, Zoey Maggart and Ford Wolkins; a sister, Norma Beller of Lake Station, IN and a brother, George Stinebaugh of Niles, MI along with many nieces and nephews.
Joan worked as a Cashier for Martins in South Bend for 25 years before she retired in 2008. She loved spending time at the lake where she enjoyed taking golf cart rides around the lake with her dog, Mickey and evening Pontoon rides with the family and Mickey. Family was most important in Joan's life. She loved to bake and cook and will always be remembered as a caring and thoughtful person.
As per her request, there will be no public viewing. A private celebration of her life will take place.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Services of Northern Indiana, 922 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46617.
