Janet Gay Trisinger (Pethick)

Janet G. (Trisinger) Pethick

Janet G. Pethick, a cherished educator and loving family member, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2024, in South Bend, IN. Janet was born on June 11, 1941, to the late Walter G. and Elizabeth H. (Cseres) Trisinger. Janet’s life was a testament to her dedication to family, faith, and education.

Janet’s journey began in South Bend, where she grew up with her sisters, Imogene Chester, and Delores Paar, who both preceded her in death. She met the love of her life, Lawrence Pethick, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Their union was blessed with two sons, Lawrence Pethick, Jr., and Jeffery (Lisa) Pethick, who in turn blessed her with the joy of grandchildren Haley (Gabriel) Martinez and Caitlin (Clarke) Hathaway, and great-grandchildren Jackson, Noah, and the twins, Ellie and Quinn Martinez.

Janet’s commitment to family was evident as she resigned from teaching at Brown Elementary School to commit full time to raising her kids. Her loving support of her family was always apparent. When her kids were grown, Janet taught fifth grade at Corpus Christi Catholic Church for 23 years where she touched the lives of countless students with her kindness and unwavering support. Her passion for education and her commitment to faith were evident in every lesson she taught and every life she influenced.

God blessed Janet and Larry with over 61 years of marriage. The final years with Janet’s Alzheimer’s were the toughest, and the family would like to thank God for bringing so many wonderful people together to help care for Janet, and especially for God’s provenance when there was only one set of footprints in the sand. “When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

The family would like to thank the Center for Hospice Care for their care and compassion in the final days of Janet’s life, especially Ashley and D, who treated Janet as if she was their own family.

Visitation for Janet will be held on Monday, February 26 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635.

Janet’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 11:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Dr., South Bend, IN 46628. The family wishes to thank Fr. Daryl Rybicki for presiding over the mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care.
