SOUTH BEND - J. Louis "Lou" Megyese, Jr., 68, of South Bend, IN, passed away after a lengthy illness, at 8:58 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
He was born on December 26, 1944 to the late Julius Louis, Sr. and Ann (Molenda) Megyese in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.
Lou was the owner /operator of Hoosier Trophies in South Bend, IN for 21 years.
On April 11, 1964, he married Rebecca "Becky" S. Crowder at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, IN.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Becky Megyese of South Bend, IN; three daughters, Jodie (Brian) McMahon of Granger, IN, Jamie (Mike) Kelley of South Bend, IN, and Jennie Megyese of South Bend, IN; one son, Michael Megyese of Michigan City, IN; 12 grandchildren; and one sister, Debbie (Tom) Leonakis of South Bend, IN.
Lou was a member of Corpus Christi Parish. He had many passions -- his family, faith (Blessed Mother) and sports. As a coach in the I.C.C.L., which dates back 35 years, his record stood at 385-40. The girls' basketball team he started at Corpus Christi School went on to be recognized in Sports Illustrated Magazine for their amazing accomplishments. He went on to coach with his son Mike and won an Indiana State Girls Basketball Championship in 2005. Lou ended his coaching career this past winter with an undefeated season in which his grandson Jared was on his team.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating.
In lieu of flowers, an Educational Fund has been set up at 1st Source Bank to benefit his grandchildren, Jenica, Jared, and Jordyn Megyese.
