Richard T. Spaulding, Sr.

Mr. Richard T. Spaulding, Sr., 75, passed away peacefully at his home during the early hours of Friday, August 2, 2019 after battling an extended illness. Richard was born on December 16, 1943 to Richard L. and Ella (Geissel) Spaulding.

A life-long resident of South Bend, Richard was employed in Loss Control for Midland Engineering for 43 years, retiring in 2009. On July 24, 1965, Richard was united in marriage to Karen Gibson, who preceded him in death on October 21, 2014. On August 25, 2017, Richard was united in marriage to Ann Harman, who survives. Richard was a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his loving wife, Richard is also survived by his children: Kenny (Ronda) Spaulding of South Bend, Dan (Heather) Spaulding of Elkhart, Dickie (Emily) Spaulding, Jr. of South Bend and Matthew (Emily) Spaulding of South Bend; stepchildren Aaron (Jennifer) Harman and Jackie (John) Gilmartin; six grandchildren: Cody Spaulding, Joseph Spaulding, Danielle Spaulding, Gibson (Lindsey) Spaulding, Truman Spaulding, Ella Spaulding; as well as a granddaughter on the way; three great-grandchildren: Oliver, Lola and Landon; and a host of extended family members and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Services for Richard will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend IN 46614. Friends may call on the family from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the funeral home. Reverend Craig Clapper to officiate. Burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s honor to Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka IN 46545.
