Michael Anthony Jr Wachowiak

MICHAEL A. WACHOWIAK

Sept. 25, 1973 - May 6, 2011
GRANGER - Michael A. "Mikey" Wachowiak Jr., 37, residing in Granger, IN, passed away on Friday morning, May 6, 2011, in his home. He was born September 25, 1973 to Michael A. and Julia A. (Himes) Wachowiak, Sr., who survive, in Granger, and remained a lifelong area resident.

Mikey worked at Weirs Gun Club from 1985-1989. He was involved with trap shooting and won the Indiana Gun Club ATA Central Zone Doubles Sub Jr. Award as well as the Indiana Northern Zone Singles Hi Sub Jr. Award in 1987.

He was a member of the John Adams High School wrestling team in 1990-1991, and then graduated from John Adams on June 9, 1991. He worked at AAY's Rental, and drove truck over the road with his dad and brother for Dutchman & Hoosier Transport, and also for 7-Up.

In addition to his parents, Michael and Julia Wachowiak of Granger, Mikey is survived by his grandmother, Wanda L. Himes of Granger; two sisters, Tammy S. (Tim) Gibson of Osceola and Toni M. (Dustin) Marshall of Mishawaka; two brothers, Joshua J. Wachowiak of South Bend and Matthew D. (Deanna) Wachowiak of Osceola; and nieces and nephews, Dylan, Krystal, Olivia, Owen and Breezy. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles, including Mary M. (Shannon) Althouse of South Bend, and beloved cousins and friends, Jessica (Eric) Fiechtner of South Bend and Joseph Hedrick of Chicago, IL.

Mikey was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lorenzo D. Himes, and grandparents, Alek D. and Clara E. Wachowiak.

Michael was devoted to his family; there to help everyone at any time, day or night. As a loving uncle, he was very proud of his nieces and nephews; displaying great pride in Krystal, gentle as a lamb with Olivia, a close friend to Dylan, and protective of Breezy. Michael loved to play cards and work with his hands. He was a master chef on the outdoor grill. He had an amazing green thumb, tending to the flower gardens and lawn. He was very special to his father, taking care of all of the responsibilities of the "man of the house." As a cherished son, he was his mother's (Julie Wako's) chauffeur and protector while his father was on the road. His dad could expect a call every day from his son. He was a loyal friend with an infectious laugh. His loss will leave a void that will never be filled.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530.
