SOUTH BEND - Scott Thomas McMahon, 43, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, from injuries sustained in an auto accident on State Road 2 east of Timothy Road, New Carlisle. He was born September 13, 1964, in Hammond, IN, to Thomas Marion and Joan Marie (Niezgodski) McMahon, and had lived in South Bend all of his life.

He graduated from John Adams High School where he played baseball. He also played ball and graduated from De Pauw University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta.

From his union in marriage to Amy Ertel four children were born, Michael, Kevin, Megan and Timothy, all residing in South Bend. Scott is also survived by his longtime companion, Dianna Westphal of South Bend, and her children, Stephanie, Taylor and Jordyn Westphal. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Joan M. McMahon of South Bend; two sisters, Kathy (Shane) Martens and Kelly (Dan) Meehan; and a brother, Cary (Melissa) McMahon of Cincinnati, OH. Also surviving Scott are his paternal grandmother, Gladys E. McMahon of Walkerton, IN; three aunts, Shirley Niezgodski of Lexington, KY, Susan Crnich of Elmhurst, IL, and Sally (David) Dutcher of LaPorte, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lisa Ann McMahon on February 3, 1962;, his father, Thomas M. "Mac" McMahon on September 2, 2007; his maternal grandmother, Helen Niezgodski on September 15, 2007; maternal grandfather, Theodore Niezgodski, November 3, 1985; and by his paternal grandfather, Francis McMahon, on January 16, 1988. He was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral, coached at Southeast Little League for many years, and played in men's softball leagues. He was a huge Reds and Notre Dame fan, and always supported his children in their activities at St. Matthew's and Marian High School. Scott was employed with Kate O'Connor's and United Beverage.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2008, in St. Matthew Cathedral. Rev. Michael Heintz officiated. Graveside services and burial followed at Riverview Cemetery. The family received friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, in Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend.
