Douglas Paul Brazy - Class Of 1981 VIEW PROFILE

Douglas Paul Brazy

Douglas Paul Brazy

Douglas Paul Brazy, 60, died December 22, 2022 at his home in Scottsdale, AZ after a lifelong struggle with ulcerative colitis.

He was born in South Bend, Indiana on April 23, 1962 to Simon M. and Renee Brazy. His parents predeceased him. He is survived by sisters Deena Brazy (Andy Kraushaar) of Madison, WI; Hedy Darnell of South Bend; and Betsy Brazy (John Cartan) of Alameda, CA; nieces Melissa Darnell (Edwardsburg, MI) and Sarah Cartan (Alameda); nephew Mathew Darnell; grandniece Alannah Wilburn; and many cousins, near and far.

Doug graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend, where an injury in high school wrestling sparked an interest in physical therapy. Before turning to PT as a career, however, he explored undergrad studies at Purdue University. He transferred to Indiana University, graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked briefly as a chemist, then entered Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. This also allowed him to be near his Chicago cousins and the Chicago Blues scene. After graduating with a Master’s degree in physical therapy, he worked as a PT in South Bend and throughout the US as a temporary PT. After his aging parents moved to Scottsdale, Doug moved there to support them.

Doug had more friends than he realized. Besides his South Bend-based group, he was popular in the Phoenix swing-dancing community. His passions were golf, swing dancing, the Chicago Bears, Notre Dame sports, blues music, particularly Buddy Guy, and the Chicago Blues Festival.

Services were private. Doug’s ashes will be distributed later.

Memorial donations can be made in Doug’s name to The Hart Fund at the Blues Foundation at https://secure.blues.org/np/clients/blues/donation.jsp?campaign=1&;, Pound Animals Worth Saving http://poundanimalsworthsaving.org or NVLD Project https://nvld.org/.
