Sue Ann Overholser (Monahan)

Sue Ann (Overholser) Monahan

Sue Ann (Overholser) Monahan passed away on December 18, 2022 following a brief illness, surrounded by her husband and children.

Sue was born on April 30, 1954 to the late Thomas and Jacquelyn J. (Slott) Overholser in South Bend, Indiana. Sue was the oldest of three daughters. Her sister, Nancy (Michael) Deneen, survives, and her sister, Jane (David) Strom, preceded her in death.

On June 22, 1974, she married Michael J. Monahan. Mike and Sue were happily married for 48 years. Together, Mike and Sue had three children: Molly (Nicholas) Scheu of Westfield, IN, Martha (Kyle) Noffsinger of Carmel, IN, and Lynn (Phillip) Pluister of Anderson, SC. She loved her children deeply.

A lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana, Sue graduated from John Adams High School in 1972. She spent many years working in retail, and then later worked within the elementary school system as a Title One Tutor and as the Librarian at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic School, where she, Mike, and their three children all had previously attended elementary school. Sue was a lifelong parishioner at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.

Sue was artistic with incredible talent in writing calligraphy, painting, and sewing. She was kind with a vibrant smile, and never knew a stranger. Sue was a devote Catholic with a strong loyalty to the Blessed Mother. She loved to garden and took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. Her door was open to all, and an extra seat could always be added to her table, as she often prepared feasts to feed the masses (especially after Notre Dame Football games!). When Sue and Mike retired, they became snowbirds and spent their winters in Leesburg, FL, where Sue enjoyed working on puzzles and golfing.

Sue was blessed with nine grandchildren: Nolan, Will, and Jake Scheu; Anna, Owen, and Emma Noffsinger; and Elliot, Rose, and Hank Pluister. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter Emma. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Gram Gram” and loved to spend time with her. Sue was incredibly proud of her grandchildren.
