LINDA SHIMMEL OBITUARY

Linda Karen Shimmel, 66, of Battle Creek died peacefully at home with her family at her side, on Thursday, January 9, 2020. Linda was born April 12, 1953 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Reid and Jeaninne (Myers) Shimmel. She grew up in Battle Creek and the South Bend, IN area. Linda graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend, IN and then earned her Nursing Assistant certificate from Kellogg Community College. Linda was employed as a nurse's aide at several area nursing homes and also cared for individuals in their homes.

Surviving are her daughter, Cortney (Kyle Rothchild) Leigon of Battle Creek; her cherished friend, Janet Tavernier of Battle Creek and "like sisters", Robbin Leigon (now deceased); her aunts and uncles, Robert Shimmel of Detroit, MI, Mary Myers of Battle Creek, Jan & Bill Olson of Union City; special cousin, Roxanne Douville; her adopted sisters, Tracy Wheeler and Julie Douglas; and family members who called her "Aunt Linda", Danielle Miller, Dustyn Hartenburg, Rebekah Wells, Adam Tavernier, Molly and Maizey Wheeler and all of their families.

Linda was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Steven Michael Shimmel.

Linda was a member of Seventh Day Baptist Church. She enjoyed latch hook projects, listening to music, especially the Beatles and Beach Boys. She loved watching Christian TV and also enjoyed playing cards and her favorite animals were penguins, monkeys and kittens. She will be remembered as a prayer warrior, humorous and everybody's caretaker, "The Grandmaid".

Friends will be received 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, January 17th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Funeral services to celebrate Linda's life will be officiated by Pastor Tim Smothers at the Seventh Day Baptist Church 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery Monday. Memorial contributions in memory of Linda may be made to Seventh Day Baptist Church, 202 N.
