David Newton Jones, 68, of South Bend, Ind., passed away following an extended illness at 1:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in Hospice House.

He was born May 3, 1935, in Bremen, Ind., to the late Charles "Buck" and Margaret (Kensinger) Jones. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dennis and Frederick.

His loving wife, Nancy Miles Wooley, to whom he was married on Aug. 20, 1960, in Little Flower Catholic Church, survives him. David and Nancy had nine wonderful sons, David (Sally) of Antwerp, Ohio, Steve (Diana Woolley) of Syracuse, Ind., Greg (Laureen Poinsatte) of South Bend, Tom (Jerri) of Rockford, Ill., Chris (Deborah Gordon) of New Carlisle, Ind., Brian (Mahshio) of Wilmette, Ill., Pat (Jenny) of St. Louis, Mo., Mike (Lisa) of St. Louis, and Joe (Jennifer Runkle) of St. Louis; 17 beloved grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Ann Rymarz of Mishawaka, Ind.; and by an aunt, Virginia Kensinger of Mishawaka.

Mr. Jones was retired senior partner in the accounting firm of Warner-Armstrong & Jones CPAs. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1953 and graduated from the University of Notre Dame, class of 1957, served in the United States Marine Corps, and was later an adjunct faculty member of IUSB teaching accounting. Mr. Jones was a member of many organizations including Michiana Bridge Center, Knights of Columbus and Santa Maria Council #553, Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley, Indiana CPA Society, American Contract Bridge League, and the Notre Dame Alumni Association. He was a past member of Kiwanis International, and also served on the board of trustees of Davenport College. David was an active member of the church he loved, Little Flower Catholic Church, and served as an usher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, in Little Flower, with Rev. Andre Leveille, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Promise of Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46635; to Catholic Charities or to a charity of donor's choice.

David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and is now at peace with the Lord. May God rest his soul!

The Welsheimer Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
