James Lee Worley

Nov. 15, 1934 - May 18, 2011

James (Jim) Lee Worley, age 76, went to be with his heavenly father on May 18, 2011. Mr. Worley passed away at his home in Greenwood.
He was born on November 15, 1934, in Mishawaka, IN.

He was adopted with his sister Shirley by Arthur and Agnes Worley from an orphanage in South Bend, IN. Jim graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend in 1953, where after he enlisted in the U.S. Army. In October 1954, he married Darlene Ingalsbe Worley. During his 24 years of service, he served overseas in Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and two tours in Vietnam. He was decorated with many commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with three oak clusters, and the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster. He retired in August 1977 as a First SGT E8. Jim was an Honor Roll member of the V.F.W., as well as the American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

His continuing service reflected his extreme pride in his military service. He was also a member of the National Federation of the Blind, where he served on the board of the Arkansas State Affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind. He also was a founding member of the National Federation of the Blind Veterans Association. Jim loved his church, his family, and his country. He was a member of the Valley View Church of Christ in Greenwood. He was always very active in his children's school and sporting events. He also very much enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their various activities. Jim loved to travel the country with his wife in their R.V.. He always said he had seen so many foreign countries that he wanted to see all he could of America. They did so for many years until his health caused them to hang up the keys to the R.V..

He is survived by his wife Darlene of 56 years; children, Kevan Worley and wife Bridget of Colorado Springs, CO., Paul Worley and wife Brenda of Yampa, CO., Eric Worley of Aurora, CO., and Beth Presley and husband Darryl of Greenwood, AR; grandchildren, Megan, Chelsea, and Nijat Worley of Colorado, Jordan and Emily Worley of Missouri, and MaKenzie and Camryn Presley of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service wase held at the Valley view Church of Christ in Greenwood, AR on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM with internment in the National Cemetery in Fort Smith all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Joe Gibbs, Tommy Selkirk, Larry Bellmyer, Larry Mars, Dale Howard, William Shankle, Chaplain Stanley Kilgore, and Gordan Conrod, all of the Vietnam Veterans of America Post #467.
