GRANGER - Larry Landy, 79, Granger, Indiana, died on October 10th at St. Joseph Medical Center, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Mr. Landy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeanette, a daughter and son-in-law Laura and Chris Carr, and grandson, Bryan of Columbus, Ohio. His is also survived by a sister, Linda K. Dukes (Ed) of Ellenton, FL, two nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph B. and Beulah M. Landy, a brother, Joseph B. Landy, Jr. and a sister, Dixie Landy.

Mr. Landy was a lifelong resident of South Bend, having graduated from John Adams High School (1952) and Indiana University (1971). His earliest employment was for Studebaker Administration and then he sustained a lengthy career at the Bendix Corporation. His work career was interrupted with military service for the US Army during the Korean conflict. Mr. Landy was a dedicated community volunteer who served the South Bend community in several philanthropic organizations. He joined the St. Joseph County Scholarship Foundation in 1988 and served as chairman of their college fair for five years and remained on their selection committee for six; he also mentored scholarship students yearly until 2011.

He was a member of the Chopin Fine Arts Club for 37 years, serving on their scholarship committee for 31 of those years and as treasurer for two years. Mr. Landy was a member of the Sylvester and Tessie Kaminiski Foundation for 19 years, president for 14 of those years. He was a member of the St. Joseph High School Band Boosters for four years and was chairman of their concession stand at Notre Dame football games. Mr. Landy was totally dedicated to his church parish, St. Pius X, where he served in any capacity he was asked. He was on the building committee for their gymnasium and the planning of the new church. He sang in their "Resurrection Choir" and served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. For 33 years, Mr. Landy was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 4263, being their financial secretary for 30 of those years. He attended the 4th Degree exemplification in 1981, and he served as purser of the Father Nieuwland Fourth Degree Council for 18 years. At the time of his death, Mr. Landy worked part time at the Church office and served on its educational center committee.

A Mass of Christian of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2013 in St. Pius X Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Parish Vigil will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Monday in the church.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sylvester and Tessie Kaminski Scholarship Foundation or the St. Joseph County Scholarship Fund. Mr. Landy will always be remembered as a true servant of God, a devoted husband, a benevolent father and grandfather, a loving brother, and a faithful friend and benefactor. We know he now resides with the angels and saints.
