Betty Lucille (Verduin) Tschida
Betty Lucille Tschida, 89 years old, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at St. Paul’s Retirement Home, South Bend. Betty was born on April 14, 1934 in South Bend to the late Lester A. and Bertha (Vincent) Verduin. She has remained a lifelong resident of South Bend. On April 7, 1956 in South Bend, Betty and Frederick M. Tschida were united in marriage. Fred preceded her in death on June 3, 2011 after 55 years of marriage.
Betty worked at Traveler’s Insurance from 1952-1958. She was a wonderful homemaker while raising their six children. Betty was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed, for decades, the euchre club and dominoes club with her friends.
Betty is survived by her five children, Diana (Marc) Laudeman of Bremen, Kathy (Michael) Baier of Dallas, GA, David (Nanette) Tschida of Comstock Park, MI, Gary (Karla) Tschida of Young Harris, GA, and Julie (Greg) Youngs of Plymouth; and seven grandchildren, Lynette (Bryan) Miller, Jay (Jennifer) Laudeman, Katie Spencer, Kristen (Jon) Latzke, Justin (Courtney) Tschida, Amanda Youngs and Sarah Youngs. Betty is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Keely, Keegan, Sawyer, Oliver, Brock, Ava, and Ella. Along with her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her son, Steven M. Tschida; two sisters, Beverly Whalen and Mary Toth; and three brothers, Eugene, Albert, and Kenneth Verduin.
Friends may visit with Betty’s family beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend where a service celebrating her life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Neil Davis will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Betty L. Tschida may be donated to Southern Care Hospice, 1626 E. Day Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Online condolences may be offered to Betty’s family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
