William H. Stanfield, Jr.

INDIANAPOLIS – William H. Stanfield, Jr., 83, lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 2:00 AM Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Allisonville Meadows Nursing Home in Fishers, Indiana, where he resided for the past few weeks.

William was born on July 8, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana to the late William and Thelma (Everson) Stanfield and attended John Adams High School. William proudly served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War Conflict.

On July 29, 1961 in South Bend he was united in marriage to Mary Ann (Young) Stanfield, who survives. William was a maintenance worker for the South Bend Tribune, where he worked for 38 years before retiring in 1991. William was a member of the St. Joseph Lodge #45, F. & AM. and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend as well as a member of Clay Church in South Bend.

William is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Stanfield of Indianapolis; son, Robert (Katherine) Stanfield of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Maci, Michael, Maggie; sister, Helen Verhoestra of Mishawaka; sister-in-law, Nancy (Jack) Pennington of Elkhart; sister-in-law, Sue Graves of Noblesville, and sister-in-law, Janice Stanfield of Buchanan, MI.

A Memorial Service and Masonic Service with military rites for William will be held at 6:30 pm Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Clay Church, 52866 Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN, with Rev. Kim Bloom officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services on Thursday in the church. Graveside services will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children Chicago Unit, 2211 North Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60707.
