C. Richard Granning, 80, of Silverbrook Avenue, Niles, Mich., died of a brief illness at 8:22 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, in Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph, Mich.

He was born July 23, 1924, in South Bend, Ind., to Charles James Granning and Helen A. Klein. He has lived in Niles since 1962, coming form Lawton, Mich.

He retired in 1991 from the OK Barber Shop in Niles, which he owned and operated. He was also a former employee of the Studebaker Company in South Bend.

Mr. Granning was a member of Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles, and was a life member in the B.P.O. of Niles Elks Lodge. Hunting and fishing were great pastimes of his.

On Nov. 13, 1948, in Mishawaka, Ind., he married the former Rosemary R. Stark, who survives. He is also survived by his sons, Patrick James Granning of South Bend and Daniel Richard (Marie) Granning of Stuart, Fla.; a sister, Constance Smith of Gurnie, Ill.; and a brother, William (Mary Lou) Granning; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in Saint Mark Catholic Church, Niles, with the Rev. Joseph W. Koma, C.S.C. officiating.

A private graveside committal service will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Niles. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the service in the church.

Contributions in memory of C. Richard Granning may be made to Saint Mark Catholic Church.
