Mishawaka - Dorothy Jean Scheetz, 94, of Mishawaka, IN., passed away at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 in her home. Dorothy was born on September 22, 1927 at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend to Theodore and Hazel (Benner) Shafer.

On February 10, 1948 at St. Monica Catholic Church in Mishawaka she married James Scheetz. James preceded her in death on June 19, 2007. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Theodore Shafer II; her sister-in-law, Bette Shafer; her brother-in-law, Robert Eddy; and son-in-law, Tommy Holland. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Roseanne "Pody" Eddy of South Bend; her children, Thomas J. (Jody) Scheetz of Elkhart, Nancy (Tommy) Holland of Mishawaka, Bonnie (Larry) Hack of Granger, Sue Scheetz of Mishawaka, Mike Scheetz of Vandalia, and Meg (Matt) Grierson of Vandalia; twenty grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Dorothy graduated from St. Monica's grade school in 1941 and went on to John Adam's High School. Dorothy started working at Madison Center in 1965 and continued to work there until 2011. She was referred to as "The Archivists" of the center because of her number of years working there.

In 1949 Jim and Dorothy purchased their first home in Normain Heights, Mishawaka's World War II subdivision built for veterans until her death.

Dorothy's hobbies included reading, collecting windup toys, rock polishing, astronomy, and music. She loved to travel and visited Italy, Ireland, and drove to Alaska.

Dorothy loved and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Dorothy was an avid reader until she came down with Macular Degeneration. Visitation for Dorothy will be on Thursday, November 4, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home-Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, November 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka with one hour of visitation prior to service time.
