MARY (ANDERSON) SNYDER

June 1, 1928 - Feb. 28, 2011
EDWARDSBURG - Mary Elizabeth Snyder, 82, of Edwardsburg, MI, formerly of South Bend, passed away on Monday evening. She was born June 1, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Lester N. and Irma (Christman) Anderson.

On July 3, 1948, she married Hershel F. Snyder, who died in 2008.

Mary is survived by her five children, Lynn E. Plank (Michael) of Elkhart, Douglas F. Snyder (Keineth), Elizabeth S. Snyder, Lori L. Barker (Scott) and Andrew B. Snyder, all of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Leah L. Plank, Emily L. Barker, Layna M. Plank Johnson (Aaron), Ian F. Barker, Kendra L. Snyder, Tess E. Barker and Chloe E. Barker; one great-grandchild, Zachary H. Smith; her siblings, Barbara J. McHugh (James) of Rockport, TX, Susan Ross of Gulf Stream, FL, James A. Anderson (Sharon) of Boynton Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Donna Anderson of South Bend; and sister-in-law, Joy Anderson of Pensacola, FL.

Preceding her in death was a brother, Lester Anderson.

Mary graduated from John Adams High School in 1946, and spent all of her life in the South Bend area. Much of her life was spent raising, nurturing and loving her family. Over a 40-year span she volunteered with the Meals on Wheels Programs in South Bend and Elkhart. She and Hershel belonged to the Maritimer Dance Club in South Bend and they also enjoyed traveling together. For over 30 years she was co-owner with husband Hershel of I&M Electric Heating Co. in South Bend.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, March 13, 2011, in Faith United Methodist Church, 802 E. Ewing St., South Bend. Friends may visit with the family starting at 2:00, with the service following in church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637, 574-243-3100; or to Faith United Methodist Church, 802 E.
