December 2, 1927 - March 16, 2024

 

Earl S. Woodworth, 96, of Fishers, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away March 16, 2024. He was born December 2, 1927 in South Bend, Indiana to the late J.Z. and Norene (Moore) Woodworth. Earl was a graduate of Adams High School, South Bend. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1950-1952. Earl received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He married Helen Finkenbrink, May 15, 1954, and she preceded him in death May 21, 2013. Earl was the co-owner and president of Woodworth Storage, South Bend, retiring in 1994.

Earl was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, South Bend, where he served as a Deacon, was a member of the board of trustees, sang in the choir and served communion. He was the oldest member of the Marching 100 Alumni Band at Indiana University. Earl served as secretary in the Exchange Club and was a member and past treasurer of Business Fliers both in South Bend. He loved being a private pilot and was proud of his instrument rating. Earl enjoyed spending weekends at Corey Lake, Three Rivers, Michigan.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Road.

Earl is survived by his daughters, Elaine Tucker (Ron) and Diane Woodworth; grandchildren, Kristin Gehring (Mark), Jeff Willy (Matt), Jason Willy (Hayley), and Karen Hartung (Holt); and great-grandchildren, Hensley Hartung, Skylar Hartung, Juliana Willy, Oakley Willy and Ava Gehring. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Woodworth.
