Robert "Bob" Dillon Oct. 11, 1930 - July 1, 2015 LAPORTE - Robert "Bob" Dillon, age 84, of LaPorte, IN passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Hospice Franciscan Communities in Michigan City, IN. Bob was born October 11, 1930 in South Bend, IN to Denver and Theresa (nee Taylor) Dillon who preceded him in death. On February 2, 1952, Bob married the love of his life and best friend; Joann Goetz in Michigan City, IN.

Bob is survived by his wife: Joann Dillon; children: Mary (Bill) Pak and Jim (Diane) Dillon; grandchildren: Matt Dillon, Jon Pak and Mia Pak; several nieces and nephews; brothers: Ralph and Ron Dillon; sisters: Joyce Schell, Becky Ferm, Carol Stum.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Kenneth and Richard Dillon.

Bob graduated from Adams High School in South Bend and received his bachelors in education from Valparaiso University and a masters degree from Northwestern University.

He spent his entire professional career with the Michigan City Area School system, serving as a teacher then principal at Barker Jr. High School. Bob then was director of curriculum and an assistant superintendent until his retirement in 1992. He was inducted into the MCAS Wall of Fame in 2009. A veteran of the Korean War, Bob was awarded a bronze star during his service overseas. Next to his family and educational career,

Bob's passion was serving the community. He volunteered and served on many local organizations. Over the years, Bob was on the board of directors for Michigan City Salvation Army; International Friendship Gardens; Festival Plyers Guild; Flying Carpet; Community Center for the Arts; and the Voyagers. He was an honorary lifetime member and past president of the Michigan City Lions Club.

Visitation for family and friends will take place on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home located at 613 Washington St, Michigan City, IN and on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 10:30 AM until time of service. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Jones of Church of God, LaPorte, IN officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to International Friendship Gardens, Michigan City, IN or the Donor's Choice.
