Darlene Elaine McGlothlen, 85, of South Bend, IN., passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the Hospice House in South Bend with her loving and caring family at her bedside.

Darlene was born on September 1, 1930 in South Bend, IN to the late Herman P. and Thelma (Rensberger) Jaqua. Darlene graduated from John Adams High School in 1948. On September 4, 1949 Darlene married Richard V. McGlothlen at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church in South Bend. Darlene and Richard were married for 57 years. Richard passed away on July 14, 2006.

Darlene is survived by her 3 children, Vicki (Jim) Johnson, Linda (Michael) Lentych, Craig (Linda) McGlothlen, sister, Shirley (Jaqua) Kinney all from South Bend and nephew Steven (Ingrid) Kinney from Bakersfield CA. Darlene is preceded in death by her infant son Brad McGlothlen who passed away in 1965. Darlene was a grandmother to 6 grandchildren, Kristen (Brian) Baker, Stacey (Josh) Plencner, Adam (Bonnie) Lentych, Mindy Middleton, Matt (Amy) McGlothlen and Josh (Barbara) McGlothlen, great grandmother to 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, and her beloved cat “Fred”.

Darlene belonged to a Canasta Club, playing cards with her friends from the neighborhood. Darlene and Richard were part of a Motor Home Club, called the Gypsy Rovers, that they joined back in 1980, for over 25 years consisting of their High School friends, who traveled the United States and Canada. Darlene had a great love for her family, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she would bake and cook during the holidays for the entire family. She had a love for animals and would make sure that the birds and other wildlife would have food to eat.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00pm with the service at 1:00, on Monday, October 5, 2015, at Bubb Funeral Chapel 3910 N. Main St Mishawaka. Burial will follow the service at St Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Michael Strzelecki, Memorial Home Care and Hospice House Staff for the special care that was given to Darlene. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to the Hospice Foundation 501 Comfort Place Mishawaka, IN 46545-5234.
