Lowell L. Lidecker, Jr.

Nov. 29, 1929 - Nov. 7, 1998

Lowell L. Lidecker, Jr., 68, residing on Lynnewood Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 4:20 p.m. on Sat-urday, Nov. 7, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

Mr. Lidecker was born on Nov. 29, 1929, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Lowell Lloyd and El-sie (Kitchen) Lidecker, and had lived in this community all of his life except for three years residing in Lewisville, Texas, from 1976-1979. Lowell was preceded in death by his father; a daughter, Catherine Louise Lidecker on June 18, 1952; and by a sister, Doris Lidecker in 1996.

On Sept 2, 1950, in South Bend, he married Marilyn J. Near, who survives.

He is also survived by his mother, Elsie Lidecker of South Bend; a daughter, Cynthia (Louis) Stremme of South Bend; two sons, John (Cheryl) Lidecker and James Lidecker, both of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren, Heather Lidecker, Christy Lidecker, Jennifer Lidecker, Joseph Lidecker, Michael Lidecker, Jason Lidecker, Andy Lidecker, David Stremme and Bobby Stremme; one great-grandson, Nicholas Stremme; two sisters, Judith (Dan) Edelman and Margaret Lidecker, both of Mishawaka; the famous sister-in-law, Betty Worley; and by dear friends, Mary and Don Martin, and Sam and Margaret Clason.

Mr. Lidecker retired from the Associates Investment Company in 1991 following 37 Þ years of employment where he served as a programmer, having worked in South Bend and Lewisville, Texas. He was also formerly employed with the Studebaker Corporation in South Bend and Uniroyal in Mishawaka. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he formerly sang in the choir; a member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend; a member and Past Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #569; a charter member of Council Oak Lodge #745 F. & AM; a member of Twin City Church and Associates Bowling Leagues, Associates Alumni Club, Chorus Club and Softball Team; and was a member of the Twin City Sam's Camping Group for the past twenty-five years, where he currently was serving as president. He was also an assistant leader for the Clay Township 4-H in Horse and Pony for 13 years. He was a driver and oldest rookie at the South Bend Motor Speedway, racing car #57, and winning the Rookie of the Year Award in 1987. He raced for three years, from 1987-1990, and also raced radio-control cars.

Services for Mr. Lidecker will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Deacon Joseph Illes of Cathedral of St. James Episcopal will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home.

Contributions in memory of Lowell may be offered to the American Heart Association, to the American Diabetes Foundation, or to Hospice of St. Joseph County.

Lowell was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and caring friend. He was someone to everyone, in some way. We will all miss him.
