M.H. ''Nick'' Nichols, 71, of Academy Place, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 12:48 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

Nick was born on April 8, 1929, in Florence, Ala., to the late Emory and Ozelean (Goins) Nichols.

On Feb. 27, 1954, in South Bend, Nick married the former Joan ''Jo'' Szewczyk, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Pam (Leonard) Sailor and Kim (Steve) Klatt, both of Mishawaka, Ind.; two sons, Perry (Ann) Nichols of Mishawaka and Robert Nichols of South Bend; five grandchildren, Andy and Amy Klatt, Rachel, Katy and Megan Nichols; and by a sister, Lorraine (bob) Taylor of Niles, Mich.

Nick retired from Perry's Top and Trim in Mishawaka. he was a musician, and had secured his pilot's license. He was a member of the Tri-Valley R/C club serving as a flight instructor, safety officer, alternate board member and club photographer. Nick served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 11, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, in the funeral home. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
