H. Russell Ohlheiser, Jr., "Russ", 81, of Windsor, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday (August 4, 2011) surrounded by loved ones. Son of the late H. Russell, Sr. and Helen (Speyer) Ohlheiser, he was born in South Bend, Indiana on September 20, 1929.

Russ received a BA in Business Administration from the University of Michigan before entering the US Army and serving in Korea. After returning from Korea, he received a BS in Engineering from the University of Michigan on the GI Bill. Russ married Susanne Coogan of Newport, RI in 1954, and came to Windsor in 1956, when he went to work for Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks. Russ later earned his Professional Engineer license from the State of Connecticut. In 1963

Russ pursued his dream to start his own business, a risky and exciting challenge with a young family. With the support of his wife, he co-founded O & W Heat Treat, Inc., which remains a growing and successful South Windsor business. Russ served as President of O&W until his retirement in April of 2010. Russ was a faithful communicant of St. Gabriel Parish in Windsor for 46 years, where he also served as a long-time Trustee. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, reading, and especially, traveling with his family. Favorite trips included Alaska, Hawaii, Italy, France, Ireland, Nova Scotia, England, Scotland, Bermuda, Germany, Yellowstone and Disney World.

He was an avid sports fan and faithfully followed the University of Michigan teams as well as the Boston Red Sox. He was a lifetime member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association. Russ delighted in cheering on his grandchildren in their various athletic pursuits, concerts, recitals, oration contests, academic awards ceremonies and any other event where he could express his pride in his grandchildren.

He is loved and mourned by a son, Patrick C. Ohlheiser and his wife Barbara of Windsor, and two daughters, Kathleen O. Murray and her husband Paul of Windsor and Anne Crowell and her husband Garry of Sudbury, MA; and seven grandchildren, Nicholas and Joseph Ohlheiser, Kara and Michael Murray, and Jeffrey, Jennifer, and Maggie Crowell. Russ is also mourned by his loving partner of ten years, Peggy Eberle of Windsor and her children and grandchildren. Russ was predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Susanne (Coogan) Ohlheiser and a brother, Jon Ohlheiser. Russ's passing will also be deeply felt by his nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will begin from Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor at 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel Church in Windsor. Burial will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. Family and friends may call on Monday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
