SOUTH BEND - Zachary Paul Bivins Sr., 49, of South Bend, Indiana, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Zachary was born on June 29, 1963, in Greenville, Mississippi, to Marie Black and the late George Bivins. He attended Sacred Heart School in Greenville, Mississippi, until the age of 10.

Upon arriving in South Bend, he attended South Bend Community Schools and graduated from Adams High School in 1981. Zach continued his education at Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana, Rock Valley College, Rockford, Illinois, and Indiana University, South Bend, Indiana.

Zach worked various jobs, which included South Bend Water Works, AM General, Commercial Driving Institute, and his current employer, Conway Freight. Zach's employment at Commercial Driving Institute afforded him the opportunity to positively impact the lives of many students. He was a patient, knowledgeable instructor, thereby enabling the students to acquire their commercial driving license and certification for the State of Indiana. Zach loved God and it manifested itself through his love for people. Zach loved his children and wanted the best for them.

Everyone who knew Zach knew him to be an outstanding role model, mentor, and genuine friend. Since his death, his family has received testimony after testimony affirming the above. Zach was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting for deer and quail. He also enjoyed cookouts in the park with friends, flag football and bowling. Zach and his mother shared a close and loving bond. Whatever she needed, she could depend on him. Zach was a dynamic personality. He had an awesome sense of humor and enjoyed a great laugh.

Zach had much love for Termaine, Cameron, Kynard, Jeffrica, Derrick, Collin, Dareen and Kevin. He also treasured his friendships with Rene', Tone, Ricky and Mike D. Zach will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

After Zach was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father, he was greeted by his father, George Bivins, stepfather, Green Blanchard, maternal grandparents, Jack and Ruth Black, paternal grandparents, John Bivins and Myrtis Lindsey, aunt, Bernice Robinson, and his beloved Aunt Babe and Uncle George.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Marie Black of South Bend; his sons, Zachery Paul Bivins Jr. of South Bend and Zion Paul Bivins of Commerce, Georgia. Other survivors include his brother, Corwin Bivins of South Bend; his step-brother, Michael Blanchard (Tamera) of Granger, Indiana; his loving aunts, Dorothy Black of South Bend, Geraldine Black-Gipson (George) of Maywood, Illinois, Bonnie Potts (Larry) of Owasso, Oklahoma; three nieces, Mikayla, Maya and Brooklyn; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Mr. Zachary Paul Bivins will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in the New Horizon Outreach Ministry, 56165 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN. Visitation will begin at 11 am and funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Burial will follow funeral service at Highland Cemetery. Please go to www.clarkoneal.com to sign the guestbook.
