Robert C. Brown, 66, of Wimbleton Court, South Bend, Ind., died following a brief illness at 5:14 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Brown was born July 20, 1937, in Mishawaka, Ind., to the late Cleo C. and Nellie Mae (Coddington) Brown, and was a lifetime area resident. On Aug. 4, 1962, in LaPorte, Ind., he married Susanna Jean Spear, who preceded him in death Sept. 2, 1995. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol Sendo.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer S. (Joel) Balok of South Bend; a son, Jeffrey R. Brown of Mishawaka; a granddaughter, Jillian Sue Balok; a brother, Ralph C. (Mary) Brown of South Bend; and by a loving friend, Dianne Brink of Granger, Ind.
Mr. Brown was an assistant financial associate for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans with whom he had been employed for over 30 years. He loved to dance and was a competitive ballroom dancer. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #235 of South Bend, Loyal Order of Moose, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon and enjoyed the fellowship of the "Friday Night Church Group." He also served with the U.S. Army Reserves.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 805 S. 29th St., South Bend. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, Ind., at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 7, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road.
