Robert J. Heiland, 77 of Goshen, passed away at 9:08 am April 12, 2013 at Eastlake Terrace.
He was born February 29, 1936 in South Bend to Henry and Maurine Heiland. He married Karen Lynn Piotrowski on March 2, 1990 in Elkhart. She survives along with Bob's son, William J. Heiland of Elkhart from a previous marriage and 4 grandchildren, Robert C. Heiland, Amy Andrews, Kate Andrews and Jason Andrews; Karen's children, Lisa (Shane) Ray of Brownsburg and Bryan (Colleen) Hahn of Chandler, AZ and 5 grandchildren, Madison Ray, Alison Ray, Nicholas Hahn, Daniel Hahn and Benjamin Hahn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Debra Andrews from a previous marriage.
Bob graduated from John Adams High School in 1955 and retired as an engineer for Bayer Corporation after 23 years. He received much recognition for developing prototypes and patents.
Bob was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the Lake Dunes Miata Club and a member of local Ski Clubs.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 pm at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, Elkhart where services will be held at 11 am Monday. Reverend John Hogsett will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
