SOUTH BEND -- Betty Lou Gillett, 53, of Park Jefferson Apartments, South Bend, died Friday morning December 22 in Memorial Hospital where she was born. She graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend and New Mexico State University. She worked as a lab technician at Memorial Hospital in Las Cruces, NM, before returning to South Bend where she worked in the same capacity at the South Bend Medical Foundation. She proudly served in the U. S. Air Force for four years.


She was born July 12, 1953, in South Bend to William T. and Verna J. (Bybee) Gillett of Las Cruces, New Mexico, who survives along with two sisters, Donna (Richard) Gehring of South Bend and Dolores (Darrell) Ward of Las Cruces, New Mexico, along with five nieces, five nephews, and one great-nephew. A brother, John William Gillett, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the HICKEY Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd. South Bend, with Rev. Jane White-Stevens pastor of Tamarack United Methodist Church South Bend officiating. Friends may visit with her family one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place at Green Park Cemetery in Portland, IN. at 4 p.m. with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 211
