Retired Lieutenant Raymond “Woody” Woodward, 75, residing in South Bend, Indiana passed away at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at his home.

Woody was born on September 14, 1939 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Donnell Woodward and Linnabelle (Waggoner) Woodward, and has been a lifelong resident of this area, graduating from John Adams High School. He also attended Indiana University South Bend, studying criminology and sociology. Woody proudly served our country in the United States Air Force with the 1095th Air Force Police Squadron. Lieutenant Raymond “Woody” Woodward served on the South Bend Police Department, retiring in 1992 after 30 years of service to our community. He was wounded in the line of duty in 1983. After retirement, he continued to work part-time with the SBPD as a fingerprint technician. Woody was Past President and Treasurer of the FOP and Past President of the Policeman’s Credit Union. He also was a former member of Chain of Lakes Conservation Club and a member of the American Legion Post 161. He previously attended River Park Church of Christ.

On May 10, 1985 at Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, South Bend, he was united in marriage to Judith A. Woodward, who preceded him in death on February 26, 2007.

Woody is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Woodward of South Bend; daughter-in-law, Melanie Miscozzi of South Bend; son, Donnell Woodward (fiancé Nancy) of South Bend; stepson, Robert “Troy” Prigmore of Post Falls, ID; ten grandchildren, Raymond, Andrew, Raymond, Elias, Ava, Troy, Leah, Derek, Angie, and Stephanie; brother, Robert Woodward of Mishawaka; cousins, Janet, Nancy, Shawn, and Lisa; niece, Jennifer (Jim) Nielander; nephew, Bryon (Donna) Woodward; and former wife, Margaret Woodward of South Bend.

Memorial Services and Military Rites for Woody will be 1:00 PM Friday, July 24, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services, 12:00 Noon till 1:00 PM. Rev. Don Neely will officiate. Burial at the Heroes Section of Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend will take place at a later date. Memorial contribution may be offered to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to the American Cancer Society of North Central Indiana, 130 Red Coach Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
