Susan Lee Dark-Spencer

SOUTH BEND - Susan Lee Dark-Spencer of Spencer, LA, formerly of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010, surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Donna Dark of South Bend, IN. She is survived by her husband, Mickey; a brother, Ray Dark of South Bend; a sister, Sharon Van Duesen of South Bend; and numerous nephews and nieces from Indiana and California. She is also survived by her loving yellow lab, Jackson.

Susan graduated from Indiana State University and received her master's degree in Special Education from the University of Montana in Missoula. She retired in 2006 as the special education coordinator for the East Bank of the Jefferson Parish School System. Susan was a member of Munholland United Methodist Church and was a regular attendee of the Prayer and Healing Service held on Tuesday mornings in the sanctuary. She was an inspiration to those who knew and met her for her positive attitude, inner peace, gentle spirit, compassion, and unwavering faith in a time of true uncertainty

. Susan will be sadly missed for her love, faith, strength and peace, and will remain in our hearts forever. Visitation was Wednesday, November 24, 2010, from 9 until 11 AM and the service followed at Munholland United Methodist Church, 1201 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA. Burial was at Metairie Cemetery. Local memorial services will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure , Attn: Donor Services, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309. The ZAHORAN FUNERAL HOME is handling local arrangements.
