Neil Kevin Schaefer

SOUTH BEND - Neil K. Schaefer, 40, of North Scott Street, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in his home after an illness. Mr. Schaefer was a self-employed carpenter in the home-improvement business.
He was born July 4, 1954, in South Bend. He is survived by his wife, Linda R. Schaefer, whom he married on July 18, 1980.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Sherry Moore of Tacoma, Wash., and Ranette Wilson of South Bend; a step-grandson; his mother, M. Gertrude Schaefer of South Bend; and three sisters, Kathleen A. Schaefer of Mishawaka, Jessica M. Belou of Plymouth and Mary F. Akerlund of Racine, Wis.
He was a member of the American Bikers Aimed Toward Education and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in McGann Funeral Home, 2317 E. Edison Road. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to ABATE or to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
