The Allen County coroner's office has identified a driver involved in a crash Monday morning after police say his vehicle hit a Citilink bus.

Michael Eugene Perry, 47, of Fort Wayne, however, did not die as a result of the crash, but of natural causes, according to the coroner's office.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of Lake Avenue and Coliseum Boulevard at 8:30 a.m. on a report of a motor vehicle accident with injury.

According to a report from the FWPD, police officers were directed to two different accident scenes. The first scene in the 4300 block of Lake Avenue was where officers saw an overturned red Jeep with the driver, Perry, restrained inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The second accident scene involving the same vehicle was west of Coliseum on Lake Avenue.

There investigators determined that the Jeep was traveling at a high rate of speed while going eastbound on Lake when it left the south side of the road, clipped the rear end of a stopped Citilink bus, then struck two street lights before continuing east back onto the traveled portion of the road. From there the Jeep crossed over Coliseum where it again left the road on the north side of Lake before it became airborne and struck a utility pole.

The Citilink bus had passengers aboard, and medics were sent as precaution to check on their well-being.
